Ibiza waves goodbye to the European Multisport 2018 and focuses on the 2022 World Championship

The European Multisport Championship 2018 is over: 5 municipalities hosting 6 continental events to showcase the outstanding sports facilities and venues on the isle Ibiza. The Organizing Committee has confirmed the candidature to host the Multisport World Championship 2022 will be presented. The President of the Council of Ibiza, Mr. Vicent Torres, confirmed this fact on social media. He posted a tweet to inform about the intention of Ibiza institutions to present the candidature to host an even greater event.

The Organizing Committee of Multisport Ibiza 2018 has generated enthusiasm to face a new challenge, after a week of amazing events (Duathlon, Cross Duathlon, Aquathlon, Cross Duathlon, Middle Distance Triathlon and Aquabike) in incredible scenarios and with a great acclaim by athletes. Mr. José Hidalgo, President of the Spanish Federation of Triathlon, stated “the European Championship was a challenge my organization assumed personally and has left very good impressions. We are highly satisfied”.

Loyal to the model developed by the Spanish Federation of Triathlon in recent years under the leadership of Mr. Hidalgo, in the European Multisport Championship Ibiza 2018 “new added values have been generated in the races, for example by organizing a Triathlon in Cala Bassa or taking athletes on a boat to the centre of the bay of Sant Antoni to start the Aquathlon and with the finish line at sunset, one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. FETRI has demonstrated we do not only want to offer sport events, our aim is to organize events for athletes to experience unique moments in beautiful scenarios and enjoy singular experiences when racing”.

José Hidalgo highlights that “all the parties involved (technical officials, coaches, athletes, institutions, etc.) have thanked and congratulated the Organizing Committee. It is not an easy task when managing almost three thousand people plus their accompanying guests”. The experience acquired in Ibiza Multisport 2018 will be very useful to advance towards the next major international Multisport event to be held in Spain next spring, in Pontevedra: the World Championship 2019: “the lessons learnt in Ibiza will be very useful to make future improvements and offer even better events in the years to come”.
